The fruit is reddish, about the size of a large plum and grows in large bunches. A bunch of fruits can weigh between 10 to 40 kilograms each. Each fruit contains a single seed (the palm kernel) surrounded by a soft oily pulp. Oil is extracted from both the pulp of the fruit and the kernel.
Ghana has a lot of palm nuts vegetation, which has become an important contributor to the agriculture of the Black Star region.
Nutrition : Palm oil is high in vitamin K and dietary Magnesium. Palm oil contains 43 percent saturated fats, 43 percent monounsaturated fats and 13 percent polyunsaturated fats. Red palm oil is widely used as a skin moisturiser and is reputed to be excellent for conditions such as eczema, dermatitis & psoriasis. The high levels of vitamin A has a rejuvenating effect on the skin, helping dry, weathered skin & believed to reduce sun sensitivity. Vitamin E is a fantastic skin vitamin & has a positive effect on dryness, scarring and stretch marks.
